The greatest record ever made? Just maybe. On this day, June 1, 1967, the Beatles released their masterpiece “for the world” (that’s what it said on the back of the jacket). Sgt. Pepper’s was the first album simultaneously released worldwide.
The Lads insisted that the LP include all the printed lyrics and that the cover be exactly the same no matter where the record was pressed. Have you ever waited in line to buy a record or CD? I remember standing in line in West Hartford, Ct. for over an hour that first day that it went on sale. I must have listened to it three or four times before I hit the hay that night. And, I can safely say, my life was forever changed. Most of us, by the way, went out and bought headphones as well.
