Ray’s a music radio veteran with over forty years of interview experience. He has conducted hundreds of conversations with some of the true greats in the world of music. As a kid and young music fan he met The Kingston Trio one evening in 1962. Since then he has enjoyed a special connection with artists. He speaks their language, and appreciates their work. The big leap happened when sixteen year old Ray met Jimi Hendrix, Jim Morrison and The Buffalo Springfield within a few months. It was also the same time that he took his first tour of a radio station. Music and radio; it all came together in that brief moment and continues today.
Ray has surrounded himself with the best and most interesting talents in the world of rock, jazz and classical music while on the air in New York and now on the west coast in San Francisco. A wide variety of music and interviews has been part of his long career. Highlights have included personal conversations with Peter Gabriel, Linda Ronstadt, Roger Waters, James Taylor, Phil Collins, Grover Washington Jr., Sting, Jerry Garcia, Randy Newman, John Mellencamp, Pat Metheny, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Joni Mitchell, and Burt Bacharach. It was, in fact, song writer Burt Bacharach who quipped with a smile as he left Ray’s studio a few years ago, “You’re more like a musician than a radio guy. You’re good. That was fun!”
A combination of honest passion, dedication, warmth and authenticity emanates from Ray White’s work. His credibility runs deep; bringing along the viewer or listener as he encourages his guests to explore and share their intriguing musical journeys.
